Presentation of the European Project DanceCARE at the International Congress ‘Social Services, Essential Services in the Context of Social Emergencies’

Presentation of the European Project DanceCARE at the International Congress ‘Social Services, Essential Services in the Context of Social Emergencies’

  • 21/10/2025

Mírian Fernández Salido, researcher at the Polibienestar Institute (University of Valencia), participated in the International Congress ‘Social Services, Essential Services in the Context of Social Emergencies’, held on 15, 16 and 17 October in Valencia (Alaquàs), presenting the communication of the European DanceCARE Project (Erasmus+) . ✨

The paper entitled ‘DanceCARE: an example of good practice in the integration of movement and dance therapy as an innovative approach to improving the physical, emotional and social well-being of informal carers of older people in contexts of climate and health emergencies’ highlights the role of Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) and the WiseMotion method as effective mind-body strategies for reducing stress, anxiety and perceived overload in informal carers of older people with long-term care needs.

In a context of marked population ageing and increased demand for care, DanceCARE promotes an innovative, humane and sustainable response, integrating art, neuroscience and emotional education to strengthen the resilience of both carers and older people, especially in situations of crisis or social emergencies.

This project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, brings together an international consortium of institutions from Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany and Finland, working together to design, implement and validate an educational programme based on seven training sessions that combine movement, conscious breathing, creativity and emotional expression.

Preliminary results show the programme’s potential to improve the quality of life and psychosocial well-being of carers by fostering support networks and promoting more accessible, preventive and person-centred intervention models.

The DanceCARE project is thus an example of good practice in responding to the great challenges of our time. In contexts of climate or health emergencies, it is not enough to rebuild infrastructure; we also need to rebuild bodies, emotions and communities. Integrating programmes such as DanceCARE into social and health services means committing to more humane, preventive and sustainable intervention models that strengthen not only individual but also collective resilience.

In short, DanceCARE is not just a therapeutic project. It is an invitation to rethink care from the perspective of creativity, empathy and movement. To recognise that caring also means caring for oneself. Because when a carer feels good, the whole community is strengthened.

At the Polibienestar Institute, we celebrate and reaffirm our commitment to social innovation and the well-being of those who support our elderly through European projects such as DanceCARE.
