Jorge Garcés participated today, June 18, in LEAD PRO—the International Summit on Emergency Management, a European pilot project on emergency management.
On June 18, the International Summit on Emergency Management, Disaster Response, and Urban Resilience took place, a gathering that brought together European institutions, emergency services, police forces, researchers, policymakers, and technology companies specializing in crisis management and civil protection. The event was held at the headquarters of the Valencia Local Police and addressed some of the major current challenges in the field of emergencies and disasters.
In addition to Jorge Garcés, the program featured representatives from the European Commission (DG HOME / DG ECHO), the European Science and Technology Advisory Group (E-STAG) of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), as well as heads of emergency and civil protection services, police forces, international experts, and representatives from the academic and technological sectors.
The event included institutional presentations, operational panels, and technology demonstrations, with participation from both public agencies and private entities specializing in emergency management, civil protection, innovation, and urban resilience.
Pilot Exercise on Flood Emergencies
Tomorrow, June 19, the district of La Torre will host an international operational pilot exercise focused on flood emergency management and multi-agency coordination in the event of disasters. This location was chosen because it is one of the areas affected by the storm and floods of October 2024. As Jesús Carbonell emphasized, the exercise will allow for the testing of advanced communication, command, and control technologies, artificial intelligence tools, and decision-support systems in a realistic scenario involving extreme flooding and population evacuation.
During the pilot, key aspects will be evaluated, such as operational coordination among first responders, real-time information management, the activation of command structures, the evacuation of vulnerable people, and the use of new technologies applied to emergencies and civil protection. The exercise will involve the Valencia Local Police, Fire Department, Civil Protection, staff and students from the CEIP Padre Manjón Preschool and Elementary School, and the 112 Emergency Coordination Center. It will also involve the collaboration of other agencies and institutions involved in emergency response, as well as international partners from the LEAD-PRO project and European experts in resilience and disaster management.
